Education dept clarifies
ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Reacting to a news item published in a section of local dailies on March 23 regarding the alleged demand of money from some contractors in the name of awarding works, the Under Secretary Education Likha Tejji in a release today clarified that the alleged release of Rs. 12.5 crores is not correct, but only an amount of Rs. 2.00 crore for proposed construction of Govt. College of Doimukh stands sanctioned. The issue has been examined in the higher education department, the release said and further clarified that no tender whatsoever has been issued in this regard, as such the question of favouring any contractor does not arise.
The government is also instituting an internal enquiry in this regard so as to ascertain the facts, the release added. However, it is reiterated by the Education Minister that transparency at all levels is being maintained and no violation or deviation is tolerated and all measures have been initiated by him, the release said. He is committed to maintain the highest level of good governance in the education department, the release added.
Appeal for early disbursement of SSA salary
ITANAGAR, Mar 24: All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association CEC in a letter to Chief Secretary cum Chairman SSA Rajya Mission has requested to intervene and direct the concerned authority for immediate disbursement of SSA teacher’s monthly salary.
The association said that despite Chief Minister’s assurance for timely release of SSA Teacher’s salary, the authority failed to disburse the SSA teacher’s monthly salary from January last.
It further said that until and unless the members of the association initiate step to get their salary, the file movement for release of SSA teacher’s monthly salary remain unattended and such attitude of concerned authority demoralizes the SSA teachers of the state, it added.

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: An Arunachal student studying in ITFT College, Chandigarh was reportedly attacked by two unknown persons without any reason yesterday night.
According to information received here today, Tanyang Tari, BCA 6th semester student of the college was beaten black and blue in front of his living room. He has reportedly suffered grievous internal head and leg injuries in the incident.
It was also informed that local police refused to accept his FIR and made fun of his Mongloid look as he failed to convince them that he was an Indian, informed ASUC president in a release.

CM mourns death of Tashi Khandu
ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed profound sorrow over the unfortunate demise of former Member of Legislative Assembly from Tawang Tashi Khandu who breathed his last yesterday night at his private resident at Tawang.
“In his death we have lost one of the first generation leaders, the first MLA from Tawang who contributed in shaping our state to the present form. ALSDSU calls off bandh
ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The All Lower Subansiri District Students Union has called off their proposed bandh call on 26th March. In a release, the union informed that this has been done so as not to disrupt the ongoing Myoko festival celebration of the Apatani community. Instead of bandh call the union is going to organize peaceful dharna in front of DC office on the same day pressing for their demands.
Lhallung MHS work to be completed in April: CE
ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The restoration works of the damaged spillway channel of Lhallung Mini Hydel Station at Mechuka is likely to be completed by the end April next.
So far, 80 percent of the restoration works have been completed despite fund crunch and remaining works are expected to be completed by the end April next, informed Chief Engineer (EZ), Department of Hydropower Development. A stretch of the spillway channel of the MHP was eroded last year during monsoon due to heavy rainfall causing heavy damages to the channel. In spite of that, the power generation from the hydel station was continued until March 7 this year. However, the MHP was shut down on March 7 to avoid further damage as spilling over water from the forebay tank and run off rain water resulted in further soil erosion of the channel causing major damages.
Currently, Mechuka Mini Hydel Station (6x2fe KW) is feeding power to Mechuka Township.
The Lhallung Mini Hydel Project (2x250 KW) near Mechuka was commissioned in August, 2013 and since then the hydel station has been supplying uninterrupted power to Mechuka town and its adjoining areas.
Prior to the commissioning of the project, Mechuka town was supplied power from Mechuka Mini Hydel Station.

Awareness prog on spice crops cultivation
ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Young Pioneers Welfare Association (YPWA) in collaboration with Spice Board of India organized an awareness programme for farmers to make them aware about various facilities available with Spices Board India and assistance provided by it to the farmers for ginger and turmeric cultivation at Jaipur Club, Namsai yesterday.
Retired IAS officer Tape Bagra suggested the 60 farmers attended the programme to make best use of the fertile lands for production of spices like ginger, turmeric etc to enhance livelihood. He suggested them to take up spice crops cultivation seriously for which Spice Board will extend necessary help and support.
During the interaction session with the farmers, senior field officer of Spices Board Vijeeshna V, said that she will to take up the matters of marketing of their produces with the higher authorities of Spices Board for providing a market linkage channel and programme.
The farmers have shown keen interest on spice cultivation.

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The dead body of Dilip Thatal, a political science lecturer of Don Bosco College, Jullang was found yesterday from Chiputa area near Doimukh. The 29 year old Thatal, son of a police constable had gone missing on Sunday. His body was discovered by villagers from the banks of river Pare at Chiputa.
While talking to this daily, officer in charge of Doimukh PS, Padi Payang informed that the villagers called the police to inform about the sighting of a dead body around 8.30 in the morning. “Drowning seemed to be the cause of the death as per our initial investigation. Most probably the body was brought down from the upstream. His body did not bear any major injury,” informed OC Doimukh. However, he added that on the basis of an FIR filed by the parents of late Thatal, a murder case has been registered. Further, he added that the mobile CDR of the victim has been sent to the Police headquarters.

We, the management, staff and students of Don Bosco College strongly appeal to the authorities to book the culprits who are responsible for his death and give justice to Dilip Thatal and his grieving family,” stated Fr. Nicholas, principal of the college.

“Anybody found absent on the bandh day without prior permission would be liable to be treated as unauthorized absent and the salary for the day will be deducted invariably,” the order cautioned.
The Chief Secretary instructed DGP to provide maximum police support to the district administration and other offices wherever required to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Mige Kamki today held a meeting with market welfare committees of both Itanagar and Naharlagun, members of transport associations, Capital Complex SP, SDPO in view of the proposed bandh call.
The representatives of Itanagar Market Welfare Association, Naharlagun Bazaar Welfare Committee and Transport Associations have reportedly assured to run all kinds of business and services as usual during the bandh day, the DC informed.
They requested the District Administration to make adequate security arrangements to deal with any kind of untoward incident during the bandh and also to issue a circular asking all shopkeepers to keep their shops open. They further appealed to ANSU call off the proposed bandh and adopt other democratic means of protest.

NES stated that, the bandh is going to badly affect the poor vegetable and meat vendors in the Capital complex, most of whom are from the Nyishi community. Questions arise over fairness of SIT investigation
ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The recent arrest of five persons for their alleged involvement in APPSCCE paper leak case has deeply divided the public opinion. Sections of people, especially the family members and close relatives of the alleged accused believe that in order to protect the actual culprits at the top, their relatives are being made scapegoats.
“As per the press statement of the SIT published on 22nd March, it seems like the
investigation team is trying to make lower rank officials scapegoat to save some
people. This can be substantiated by going through the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service
Commission rules of procedure & conduct of examination guidelines, 2012. Wherein,
section 48(iii) says that examinations related materials will not be kept for a maximum
period of 3 years. How can a person be held responsible for giving out old question
paper?” questioned one of the relatives. Further they added, “Section 34(i) says
that the particular examination materials to be used for the day of examination will
be decided by the commission in presence of secretary, joint secretary/controller
of exam (COE), deputy secretary, under secretary and so concerned. It is learnt that
both deputy secretary and under secretary alleged in the case were not at all involved
in the entire recruitment process of APPSCE-
Further, they added, “Section 31, clearly spelled that the setting of question papers
will be outsourced to reputed firms by observing codal formalities. Subsection 31(i)
says that in case of outsourcing is not possible a question bank may be maintained
by the commission for reference which will be updated periodically to include more
questions from new/emerging fields in current event. And, the subsection (vi) of
section 31 says that no one working in the commission will be engaged to set question
paper and moderate it. Section 33 (i) to (vi) specifies the direction for storage

Dr. S. J. Mitapo, District TB Officer highlighted on World TB Day and on RNTCP programme. He explained various necessary steps required to control TB, its diagnosis and treatment at DOTS under RNTCP and its mechanism of functioning. He also informed that Sputum Microscopy was done free of cost and good quality anti TB drugs supplied free of cost to TB patients for full course. He informed the gathering about the performances of DTC, Roing since inception of the RNTCP in the district and also about implementation of DOTS Plus Services in the District.
On the occasion, the message “Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat” and “TB Mukt Bharat” was delivered to the audience and urged upon the gathering to spread this message throughout the district to eliminate TB.

It has been more than two months since the conduction of UDC written exam by the Hon Guwhati High court, but result has not been declared yet. This delay is creating suspicion among the candidates.
OMR sheet can be evaluated within very short period of few days. So it is out of our comprehension why they are taking so much time to declare the results of the written exam.
Written exam of Sheristadar was also conducted by the same authority whose result was declared within two months.

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to highlight that there are many private coaching institutes in Itanagar, Naharlagun and Nirjuli which demands sky scraping fee from students for admission. Well, they are doing a commendable job in preparing the young aspirants in achieving their dream. Also, with the passage of time the competition level is raising day by day. Almost all the students have understood this reality and they wants to be trained in the best institute and by the best teachers.
Unfortunately, due to high fee structure, lots of students fail to get admission. These institutes should have bit of humility for students since we are the future.

Considered to be one of the most popular tourist destinations of state, Lower Subansiri district, is in news for all the wrong reason in recent days. Incidents of extortion and looting by hardcore criminals as well as student leaders have emerged in the last couple of days. Ziro police arrested four extortionists and also recovered huge cache of illegal arms from them. The incident raises serious question marks over effectiveness of police check gates.
The Arunachal Pradesh Police has set up check gates at Kimin, Yazali and Doimukh which are gateway to the district. How can the criminals enter district headquarter passing through these gates without being caught as they were carrying illegal firearms? The report about student leaders of district involving in goondaism activities is a matter of deep concern. The citizens of Lower Subansiri, who are considered to be peace loving and well educated need to rise up against such criminals and take strong steps to make district a safe place for tourists as well citizens. People will have to keep aside the tribe and area allegiance in order to fight against the criminals. Often in the past people of Lower Subansiri district have shown way to rest of the Arunachal and again it is time they collectively take lead in this fight against the extortionists and organized criminals. They just cannot afford to turn one of the most developed districts of state into a crime hub. Big responsibilities lie on the people of Lower Subansiri district.
